Among the leaders, Korea and China exhibited the most substantial 16% and 5% average increase in the volumes of relevant filings.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/7653343\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-6 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-font-size:18px;--awb-margin-top:50px;--awb-margin-bottom:50px;\"><p>The breakdown of European patent applications by country of origin demonstrates that innovators from EPO member states were the most active food chemistry filers in the region. They issued roughly 64% of all cases prosecuted by the European firms in the field in 2020, followed by the US (21%) and Japan (11%). Interestingly, Chinese applicants were not among the top 100 applicants seeking patent protection in Europe despite their overall leadership and growth. One of the possible explanations for such discrepancy could be a Chinese IP-related subsidy program which triggered the rise of domestic rather incremental innovations that newer crossed the Chinese border.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-4 fusion_builder_column_1_2 1_2 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:50%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:3.84%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:20px;--awb-spacing-left-large:3.84%;--awb-width-medium:50%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:3.84%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:3.84%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/6806043\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-7 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-font-size:18px;--awb-margin-top:50px;--awb-margin-bottom:50px;\"><p>The applicants&#8217; ranking followed the country of origins&#8217; trend. In the considered time frame, Swiss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nestle.com\/\">Nestle<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nestle.com\/\">Nestec<\/a> together hold the first position. They were followed by Russian researcher Mr. Kvasenkov, American <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monsanto.com\/\">Monsanto<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pioneer.com\/portal\/site\/Public\/?locale=en_GB\">Pioneer HI-Bred International<\/a>, and Dutch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dsm.com\/corporate\/home.html\">DSM<\/a> (see Figure 2). They accounted for 84% or 88,381 filings between 2016 and 2020 (considering the largest 100 IP law firms that prosecuted most of the cases in food chemistry worldwide). Unsurprisingly, most of those agents dealt with the patent applications on behalf of local applicants.<\/p>\n<p>The two non-Chinese patent law firms in the Top 25 (see Table 1) were American <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/dentons-us\/\">DENTONS<\/a> and Brazilian <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/dannemann-siemsen-bigler-ipanema-moreira-br\/\">DANNEMANN, SIEMSEN, BIGLER &amp; IPANEMA MOREIRA<\/a>. While<a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/dentons-us\/\"> DENTONS<\/a> followed the Chinese pattern and worked with domestic clients in food chemistry, <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/dannemann-siemsen-bigler-ipanema-moreira-br\/\">DANNEMANN, SIEMSEN, BIGLER &amp; IPANEMA MOREIRA<\/a> mostly received cases from international applicants such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nestle.com\/\">Nestle\/Nestec<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corteva.com\/\">Dow AgroSciences<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monsanto.com\/\">Monsanto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-table\" data-src=\"visualisation\/7653977\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-9 fusion-text-no-margin\" style=\"--awb-font-size:18px;--awb-margin-top:50px;--awb-margin-bottom:50px;\"><p>As for the European IP law firms, British agents prosecuted 35% of filings in food chemistry and were followed by German (34%) colleagues.<br \/>\nAmong the EPO leaders in the field, agents from Netherland, France, and Italy such as <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/nederlandsch-octrooibureau-nlo-shieldmark-nl\/overview?\">NLO NEDERLANDSCH OCTROOIBUREAU,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/plasseraud-ip-fr\/\">PLASSERAUD IP<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/bugnion-s-p-a-it\/\">BUGNION S.P.A.<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/v-o-vereenigde-octrooibureaux-nl\/\">V.O. (VEREENIGDE OCTROOIBUREAUX)<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/arnold-siedsma-nl\/\">ARNOLD &amp; SIEDSMA<\/a> represented most of the cases for domestic applicants. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nutricia.com\/\">Nutricia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roquette.com\/\">Roquette<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/carpigiani.com\/\">Carpigiani<\/a>, for example, were among them. At the same time, British and German patent firms &#8211; especially <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/vossius-partner-de\/\">VOSSIUS &amp; PARTNER<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/boult-wade-tennant-gb\/\">BOULT WADE TENNANT<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/j-a-kemp-gb\/\">J A KEMP<\/a> &#8211; made a somewhat more substantial focus on international clients, precisely once filing from the US, Japan, and Korea.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-table\" data-src=\"visualisation\/7657136\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box By definition, one case contains all the filings that belong to a single patent family and was represented by the same agent. This is a crucial distinction to avoid double counting. Secondly, for the sent work, we show only the cases for which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ip-pilot.com\/zh-hans\/decision-maker-feature-explained\/\">IP-Pilot&#8217;s algorithm<\/a> identified that the representatives and not their clients were responsible for selecting partners in foreign jurisdictions. Japanese (15%), and Korean (13%) colleagues followed American ones in this respect (see Figure 4).<\/p>\n<p>Despite the country-wide statistics, three out of five upper firms in Table 3 were from the Netherlands, including <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/arnold-siedsma-nl\/\">ARNOLD &amp; SIEDSMA<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/v-o-vereenigde-octrooibureaux-nl\/\">V.O. (VEREENIGDE OCTROOIBUREAUX)<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/nederlandsch-octrooibureau-nlo-shieldmark-nl\/overview?\">NLO NEDERLANDSCH OCTROOIBUREAU<\/a>. The Dutch representatives sent a rather substantial share of patent filings from various local food chemistry applicants to the US, China, Canada, and Australia. Italian <a href=\"https:\/\/app.ip-pilot.com\/law-firms\/bugnion-s-p-a-it\/\">BUGNION S.P.A.<\/a> held first place. In Europe, British and German IP law firms represented the highest portion of relevant applications, most of which were from foreign inventors. Dutch, French, and Italian agents also held the upper positions in the rank by handling a substantial number of patent filings for local clients.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the international case exchange, the US representatives sent the largest number of food chemistry cases abroad. At the same time, patent firms from the Netherlands and Italy top the list.
