The Entity Grouping feature consolidates the corporate portfolio of all connected entities in one view, allowing you to evaluate the full scope of patents or trademarks filed by a corporate group. This saves you the need to manually select related entities individually for a consolidated view. You also avoid the risk of overlooking a related entity, e.g. when a M&A occurs.

This feature is currently applicable to the grouping of applicants only. There is no option to group law firms at this stage; to select a group of law firms, you will need to select them individually from the name search bar under Analyze Law Firm.

How to use:

  1. Activate the toggle “Group applicants” in the sidebar.
  2. Go to the Analyze section of the side menu.
  3. Select Applicants.
  4. Type the name of an applicant in the name search bar.
  5. On the name search bar’s results, grouped applicants will be listed first and under their corporate name. Single entities can still be found by clicking on the group link listed under the corporate name. Then click on the About Tab to see the list of individual entities.
  6. Select the grouped applicant you wish to analyze. It is possible to select multiple groups and single entities.
  7. Click the arrow at the end of the name search bar to load the profile of interest.

Use case:

This is similar to understanding the information available in a single applicant’s profile, with the core difference being that they are now analyzed at the corporate level. This gives you a helicopter view of a group’s international filing strategies, global representative list, and if the decision maker and/or representative of a subsidiary’s portfolio resides in the mothership.

This is similar to understanding the Important Clients chart available in a single law firm’s profile, with the core difference being that the client portfolio now distinguishes corporate clients from single applicant clients. This gives you a better understanding of a law firm’s client profiles (are they mostly corporates, SMEs or inventors) and client acquisition strategy.

FAQ’s

Corporate groups are derived from analyzing entities that are mentioned jointly on patent/trademark families, similarities in applicant names, as well as external corporate hierarchy datasets which we matched against patent and trademark data.

Group Entity data is updated concurrently with the rest of our data including new filings. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we run a data update, at the very least, once every month, sometimes more frequently.

You can find the list of the related entities in the About Tab, under “RELATED GROUP APPLICANTS”.

This happens when you search for single applicants and the toggle “Group Applicants” is activated. You need to deactivate to see single applicant’s results.

You can deactivate the toggle “Group Applicants” in the sidebar.

Please ensure your toggle “Group applicants” in the side menu is activated.
